Prabha Atre: Veteran classical singer Prabha Atre passed away in Pune

Senior classical singer Swarayogini Dr. Prabha Atre passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 92 in Pune. Prabha Atre suffered a heart attack in his sleep early this morning. He was taken to Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. However, he had passed away before that. Atre’s body will be cremated on Monday. 

Dr. has a multifaceted identity as Swarayogini, a music thinker and writer. Prabha Atre was a veteran singer from the Kirana family. That Pt. She was a disciple of Sureshbabu Mane and Hirabai Badodekar. The Central Government honored him with the Padma Shri in 1990 and the Padma Bhushan in 2002 for his contribution to the field of music. He was honored with Padma Vibhushan in 2022. Atre has been honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi and Punya Bhushan Awards. Atre is famous for many books on music.

Who is Prabha Atre?

Prabha Atre was born in Pune. At the age of eight, he turned to classical singing. He completed degrees in science and law while studying music. Later he did his doctorate in music.

Prabha Atre will be fondly remembered as a talented singer, music composer, writer, professor and comedian. Along with ‘Khyal’ singing, he also mastered ‘Thumri’, ‘Dadra’, ‘Ghazal’, ‘Physical Sangeet’, ‘Natya Sangeet’, ‘Bhajan’ and ‘Bhav Sangeet’. Prabha Atre has played a huge role in spreading Indian classical music around the world.
